Kilimanjaro is not only the highest peak in Africa, it’s also the tallest freestanding mountain in the world and Belay Expeditions is joining forces with Madison Mountaineering to take 10 mountaineers to her summit.
Called the “Mountain of Greatness” by the native Tanzanians, this journey to one of the famed Seven Summits is an experience of a lifetime! The non-technical Machame route ascends climbers through five ecosystems allowing ample time for acclimatization. Although Kilimanjaro is partially covered in a glacier, the Mechame route meanders around the icy slopes to Stella Point then onward to Uhuru Peak - the highest point in Africa. We do not use crampons, or rock climb at any time (unless teams elect to scale the Lava Tower), making this expedition a high altitude trek. Physically, climbers need to be able to trek for at least a few hours each day.
This expedition appeals to the seasoned climber in pursuit of the “7 summits” as well as first-time mountaineers who are eager to experience a high altitude expedition. We arrive in camp every afternoon, alongside our Tanzanian staff, and participate in song and dance to celebrate another successful day.
