OVERVIEW:

Join BE June 2026 for a truly epic bikepacking journey on Colorado’s famous Alpine Loop! This 6-day journey takes us to the San Juan Mountain towns of Lake City and Silverton as we ride 78 miles on the national scenic gravel backcountry byway called the “Alpine Loop.”

On this 6-day journey, you’ll get the chance to sleep in the awe-inspiring American Basin, take a much deserved nero day in the old west mining town of Silverton, ride over the 12,000’ passes of Cinnamon and Engineer, through seven ghost towns, and by fields of wildflowers and rushing creeks! Not to mention, you’l have the epic opportunity to fine-tune your bikepacking skills and knowledge!

This all-inclusive, self-supported 6-day journey consist of four active days and two travel days. All meals on trail and at camp are included. Bikepacking gear, mountain bike, and airport shuttle can be included at checkout!

  • Required Skill Level = Novice

  • Exertion Level = Moderate to Strenuous

  • Mileage = ~78.

  • High = 60’s Low = 30’s.

  • Beginning & Ending Location = Lake City, CO (Montrose Regional Airport)

  • Registration closes 2 weeks prior to arrival

  • A $500 non-refundable deposit to secure your spot is welcomed at checkout! After placing your deposit, BE will email you about your preferred payment plan! This deposit is applied to the overall balance. No worries, there’s no interest or added fees. BE Simple!

ITINERARY:

Day 1: Montrose & Lake City Arrival!

Welcome to Colorado! Meet BE at our Lake City accommodation at 4:00pm for our team welcome dinner, itinerary overview, and gear prep. Flying in? BE can meet you at the Montrose airport at 1:00pm. Let the Good Life commence! Included meals = Dinner. Accommodation = Hotel. Miles = 0.

Day 2: Off we go to the American Basin!

Let’s do this! Post-checkout at 11:00am, we’ll pack up and ride our first miles out of town, along Lake San Cristobal, and up to the awe-inspiring American Basin! Today is mostly flat as we warm up our bodies for an epic ride tomorrow! Included meals = Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Accommodations = Tent. Miles = 22.

Day 3: Cinnamons Pass to Silverton!

GOOD MORNING! Today is an exciting day as we cycle over our first 12,000’ pass! From camp at the American Basin, we’ll ride 2.5 miles to Cinnamons Pass for upclose and personal views of Cinnamon Mountain’s 365 degree views of the San Juans. Post-pass, we’ll descend 3.5 miles to our early lunch spot at Grouse Gulch near Animas Forks. After lunch, we’ll finish up 11 more miles on the bike into the old mining town of Silverton! Included meals = Breakfast & Lunch. Accommodations = Hotel. Miles = 17.

Day 4: Until next time, Silverton!

Silverton is a mega rad town and we want you to experience it so after lunch in Silverton we’ll hop on our bikes and ride 12 miles out of town toward Engineer Pass! Today is mostly flat as we ready our bodies for another epic ride tomorrow! Included meals = Breakfast & Dinner. Accommodations = Tent. Miles = 12.

Day 5: Engineer Pass to Lake City!

Good EARLY morning! Today is our LAST day of uphill and our last day on the bike! This is a big day in and of itself because today you complete the Alpine Loop, so let’s get goin’! After a gnarly five mile ride up to Engineer Pass, we’ll have an epic 18 mile descent alongside Henson Creek into Lake City! Let the celebrations begin! Tonight you rest in a cozy cabin bed! Included meals = Breakfast & Lunch. Accommodations = Hotel. Miles = 23.

Day 6: Lake City & Montrose Departure!

It’s departure day! At 11:00am, we’ll part ways! The only thing on the agenda before that is returning bikes and gear and enjoying a final quiet morning in the small, quaint Colorado town of Lake City. Flying out? Be sure to book your departing flight for no earlier than 3:00pm! Thank you for bikepacking six epic days with BE in the high mountains of Colorado! LOGISTICS:

  • Flying? BE will meet you at Montrose Regional Airport by 1:00pm on Day 1.

  • Driving? Meet BE at our Lake City accommodation by 4:00pm on Day 1.

  • Book your departing flight for no earlier than 3:00pm on Day 6!

RENTAL GEAR:

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY:

  • Journeyers who cancel their journey 90+ days before the start date will be refunded the total amount minus processing fees and the $500 non-refundable deposit.

  • Journeyers who cancel their journey 30 to 90 days before the start state will be refunded half the total amount minus processing fees.

  • Journeyers who cancel their journey less than 30 days before the start date will not be refunded.

  • Participants who choose to leave an active journey for any reason are not entitled to a refund. Due to the nature and heavy costs of operating permits, BE must adhere to the above itinerary and refund policy.
