Mount Kenya - the highest mountain in Kenya and the second highest mountain in Africa! Mount Kenya is not a mountain of one peak, but of many spikes, spires, and summits. When the clouds clear, this extinct volcano can be seen from Nairobi and the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro! Mount Kenya is often said to be a mountaineer’s mountain because the highest peak on the mountain - Point Batian at 17,057’ - can only be reached via 15-20 pitches of 5.6-5.8 technical rock climbing.
Our custom route summits Point Lenana, Point John, Point Nelion, and Point Batian. Point Lenana is the highest non-technical summit at 17,022’ and is a popular and worthy destination in and of itself. Point John is a beautiful spire we will use as for technical training, and Point Nelion and Batian are the two highest peaks; separated by the famous “Gates of Mist”.
Mount Kenya appeals to mountaineers and rock climbers eager to experience a high altitude technical expedition! This stunning and adventurous hike requires high fitness levels, a love for heights, and a deep desire to learn technical mountaineering!
