Colorado is famous for its 54 peaks that rise over 14,000’ and at BE, we don’t like to rush the experience! For three days and two nights this summer, we will backpack through stunning wilderness, sleep beside two picturesque alpine lakes, and summit Colorado’s prettiest 14er - Handies Peak!

You’ll also spend one night prepping for your grand adventure at the historic Grand Imperial Hotel, nestled in the old west mining town of Silverton, CO. Then, after your journey, you’ll enjoy one final night of relaxation and celebration at the charming historic hot springs and lodge in the picturesque town of Ouray, CO!

ITINERARY:

Day 1: Arrival @ Grand Imperial Hotel!

Welcome to Colorado, home of 54 peaks rising over 14,000’! We’re stoked to climb one with you! Our journey commences at 3:00 p.m. at the Grand Imperial Hotel in the old but charming mining town of Silverton where we’ll begin to acclimatize, enjoy a team welcome dinner, review our itinerary, and prep our gear! Our hike begins tomorrow!

Included meals = Dinner. Accommodations = Hotel. Miles = 0. Silverton elevation = 9,302’.

Day 2: Sloan Lake in the American Basin!

Good morning! After breakfast and coffee, we’ll make our way to the trailhead to begin our scenic 4.5-mile hike through stunning forests and over our first 13,000-foot pass before descending to our first night’s campsite in the awe-inspiring American Basin at Sloan Lake. The summit of Handies Peak is clearly in sight! This alpine lake is one of the most photographed lakes in the entire nation; we’re happy to sleep here with you!

Included meals = Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner. Accommodations = Tent. Miles = 4.5. Camp elevation = 12,920’.

Day 3: Handies Peak & Secret Lakes

Good early alpine morning! Today is summit day and we’ll be waking up super early to catch a sunrise summit. After summit celebrations, you’ll have the option to extend your adventure by traversing the ridge for an additional mile to reach the summit of Colorado’s 13,000-foot peak, Whitecross Mountain! Post-mountain-top adventures, we’ll make our way back down to camp for lunch and a quick lakeside nap before packing up to continue our journey up and over our second 13,000-foot pass which drops us down to our camp at an unnamed secret lake! We love it here!

Included meals = Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner. Accommodations = Tent. Miles = 4.5-7. Summit elevation = 14,058’. Camp elevation = 12,507.’

Day 4: Mountain Livin’ & Ouray Hot Springs

It’s our final morning on the mountain — a moment that’s always bittersweet. After breakfast, we’ll pack up our gear, tackle our descent, and then drive back through Silverton and onto Ouray - the Switzerland of America! This afternoon/evening, we’ll soak and stay at the historic Ouray Hot Springs & Lodge because we deserve it!

Included meals = Breakfast. Accommodations = Hotel. Miles = 2.5. Ouray elevation = 7,792’.

Day 5: Saturday - Departure

It’s departure day and the morning is yours to enjoy at your leisure! Feel free to join BE at our farewell breakfast for goodbyes and to return any gear rentals you may have. Checkout is at 11:00 am, so please be sure to book your return flights for any time after 2:00 pm. If you’re driving out on your own, don’t hesitate to ask BE for post-journey recommendations.   • Flying? Your closest airport is Montrose Regional Airport. BE can meet you at the airport by 1:00pm on Day 1. We recommend booking your return flight for no earlier than 2:00pm on Day 5.

  • Driving? Meet BE at the Grand Imperial Hotel in SIlverton at 3:00pm on Day . Our journey will end at 11:00am on Day 5.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY:

  • Journeyers who cancel their journey 90+ days before the start date will be refunded the total amount minus processing fees and the $500 non-refundable deposit.

  • Journeyers who cancel their journey 30 to 90 days before the start state will be refunded half the total amount minus processing fees.

  • Journeyers who cancel their journey less than 30 days before the start date will not be refunded.

  • Journeyers who choose to leave an active journey for any reason are not entitled to a refund. Due to the nature and heavy costs of operating permits, BE must adhere to the above itinerary and refund policy.
