OVERVIEW:
Take a step back in time and climb a famed Colorado 14er this summer alongside your family, fellow GoBundance members, and the local expert guides at BE. Your unforgettable journey will begin at the historic Durango-Silverton Railroad station as you hop aboard the nation’s most scenic and charming railroad, winding your way through breathtaking landscapes along the Animas River en route to the old mining town of Silverton!
Once you arrive in Silverton, you’ll check into the historic Grand Imperial Hotel and prepare yourself for an exciting three days and two nights in the mineral-rich mountains of the San Juan range. Together, we will backpack through stunning wilderness, sleep beside two picturesque alpine lakes, and summit Colorado’s prettiest 14er - Handies Peak!
After the climb, we’ll reward ourselves with a relaxing soak at the much-deserved Durango Hot Springs, followed by an overnight stay at the iconic Strater Hotel in downtown Durango. ITINERARY:
Day 1: Thursday - Arrival & Durango-Silverton Train!
Welcome to Colorado, home of 54 peaks rising over 14,000’! We’re stoked to climb one with you! Our journey commences at 8:00 a.m. at the Durango-Silverton Railroad Station where we’ll ride 3.5 hours along mountains and the Animas River enroute to the old mining town of Silverton! Once in Silverton, we’ll check in to the historic Grand Imperial Hotel where we’ll begin to acclimatize, enjoy a team welcome dinner, review our itinerary, and prep our gear! Our hike begins tomorrow!

Day 2: Friday - Sloan Lake in the American Basin!
Good morning! After breakfast and coffee, we’ll make our way to the trailhead to begin our scenic 4.5-mile hike through stunning forests and over our first 13,000-foot pass before descending to our first night’s campsite in the awe-inspiring American Basin at Sloan Lake. The summit of Handies Peak is clearly in sight! This alpine lake is one of the most photographed lakes in the entire nation; we’re happy to sleep here with you!

Day 3: Saturday - Handies Peak & Secret Lakes
Good early alpine morning! Today is summit day and we’ll be waking up super early to catch a sunrise summit. After summit celebrations, you’ll have the option to extend your adventure by traversing the ridge for an additional mile to reach the summit of Colorado’s 13,000-foot peak, Whitecross Mountain! Post-mountain-top adventures, we’ll make our way back down to camp for lunch and a quick lakeside nap before packing up to continue our journey up and over our second 13,000-foot pass which drops us down to our camp at an unnamed secret lake! We love it here!

Day 4: Sunday - Mountain Livin’ & Durango Hot Springs
It’s our final morning on the mountain — a moment that’s always bittersweet. After breakfast, we’ll pack up our gear, tackle our descent, and then drive back to Durango, where this epic journey all began. This afternoon/evening, we’ll rejuvenate at the much-deserved Durango Hot Springs. Tonight, you’ll sleep comfortably at the iconic Stater Hotel, situated perfectly in the heart of Durango’s Historic District.

Day 5: Monday - Departure
It’s departure day and the morning is yours to enjoy at your leisure! Feel free to join BE at our farewell breakfast for goodbyes and to return any gear rentals you may have. Checkout is at 11:00 am, so please be sure to book your return flights for any time after 1:00 pm. If you’re driving out on your own, don’t hesitate to ask BE for post-journey recommendations. LOGISTICS:
Flying? Your closest airport is Durango-La Plata County Airport. BE can meet you at the airport to take you to your Durango hotel! We recommend booking your return flight for Monday, no earlier than 1:00pm.
Driving? Meet BE in at the Durango-Silverton Railroad Station at 8:00am on Thursday, Day 1; all luggage in hand. Our journey will end at 11:00am on Monday, Day 5.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY:
Journeyers who cancel their journey 90+ days before the start date will be refunded the total amount minus processing fees and the $500 non-refundable deposit.
Journeyers who cancel their journey 30 to 90 days before the start state will be refunded half the total amount minus processing fees.
Journeyers who cancel their journey less than 30 days before the start date will not be refunded.
Journeyers who choose to leave an active journey for any reason are not entitled to a refund. Due to the nature and heavy costs of operating permits, BE must adhere to the above itinerary and refund policy.
