OVERVIEW:

Welcome to Tokyo, home of Japan’s highest volcano - Mount Fuji! This country’s highpoint rises to 12,388’ and will require three days and two nights on the mountain. With tent camping prohibited on Mount Fuji, we will be sleeping in historic mountain huts en route to our summit. In addition to climbing the world’s most popular mountain, we’ll experience a formal Japanese tea ceremony dressed in kimono, a traditional bathhouse or “onsen”, an overnight accommodation in a Buddhist temple, an optional worship service with the monks, a celebratory sake tasting and dinner pairing, a saunter through Aokigahara forest, sushi, ramen, and so much more!

Our custom route is no out-and-back. BE intentionally pieces together multiple routes to create the most scenic and enjoyable once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our custom route, also known as the Prince Route, sees the fewest hikers each year, offers a circumnavigation of the crater’s rim, and hikes you through Mount Fuji’s newest crater - Mount Hoei!

Altogether, this 8-day journey includes four days and four nights in Tokyo and four days and three nights on Mount Fuji. Deposits are welcomed, you can rent gear at checkout, and discounted companion rates are available so feel free to bring an adventure partner!

ITINERARY:

Day 1: Arrival & Team Welcome Dinner!

Welcome to Japan! We had quite the flight so today BE will pick you up at Tokyo International Airport and head straight to our hot springs hotel in the Asakusa district in Tokyo for some relaxation! Tonight, we will have enjoy a team welcome dinner and talk about our week ahead! Go enjoy that hotel onsen! Meals included = Dinner. Accommodations = Hot Springs Hotel. Miles = 0.

Day 2: Tea Ceremony & Senso Ji Temple!

Good morning! Today is a relaxing day for you to recover from jet lag! After a leisure morning and breakfast, we will experience formal Japanese tea ceremony dressed in kimono! Afterward, we will visit Senso Ji temple and enjoy an early dinner! Over after-dinner tea, we’ll talk gear. Meals included = Breakfast. Accommodations = Hot Springs Hotel. Miles = 2.

Day 3: Mount Fuji & its Museum!

Good morning! Today is a big day as we make our way to and up Japan’s highest mountain and volcano - Mount Fujisan! But before we do, we’ll stop by the Mount Fuji World Heritage Site museum to learn a little about our mountain. Afterward, we have just a half-mile hike in to our first historic mountain hut! Sleeping accommodations are dormitory style with a mattress, pillow, sleeping bag, and dinner provided by the hut caretakers. Welcome to Mount Fuji! Meals included = Breakfast & Dinner. Accommodations = Hut. Miles = 1.

Day 4: Upward-Bound!

Good morning, today we continue up our mountain and through the Mount Hoei crater en route to the highest hut on the mountain! Meals included = Breakfast & Dinner. Accommodations = Hut. Miles = 4.

Day 5: Summit of Mount Fuji!

Good early alpine morning! Today is summit day! We have about two more hours to the top and then a saunter around the crater’s rim! After summit celebrations, we’ll leisurely descend back down to the our first mountain hut! CONGRATULATIONS on summiting the highest mountain in Japan! Meals included = Breakfast & Dinner. Accommodations = Hut. Miles = 9.

Day 6: Buddhist Temple, Waterfalls, & Forest Walk

Good leisure morning! Today, we head off the mountain to relax and restore in a Buddhist temple! En route to the temple, we can visit Shiraito Waterfalls and Aokigahara Forest; both seeped in rich history. Tonight, we sleep peacefully and fulfilled in Minobu, Japan. Meals included = Dinner. Accommodations = Buddhist Temple. Miles = 1.

Day 7: Sake Tasting & Dinner Pairing

Welcome to our last full day in Japan! Today is a day for much continued and deserved R&R. After a late checkout and optional worship service with the monks, we’ll make our way back to Tokyo to celebrate our journey with a sake tasting and dinner pairing from a professional sake sommelier! Meals included = Breakfast & Dinner. Accommodations = Hot Springs Hotel. Miles = 0.

Day 8: Departure

Good LAST morning! Today we depart Japan for our homelands! BE will drive you to the Tokyo International Airport. But before we do, we just want to say THANK YOU! Thank you for spending eight days of your life with us and thank you for trusting us on Japan’s highest mountain! Keep living outside, simple, and in pursuit! Meals included = Breakfast. Accommodations = N/A. Miles = 0.

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY:

  • There are no refunds for the deposit. Additionally, there are no refunds for expeditions that conclude without reaching the summit due to route conditions, weather, insufficient manpower, or any other factor outside the control of BE.

  • Expedition leader has the final say on the expedition conclusion and will make all best efforts towards reaching the summit within our margin of safety.

  • Participants that choose to leave an active expedition for any reason are not entitled to any refunds

  • Due to the nature and heavy costs of government and operator permits, BELAY EXPEDITIONS must adhere to a stringent refund policy.

WHAT TO EXPECT POST-PAYMENT:

Once you place your deposit or pay in full, BELAY EXPEDITIONS will send you a confirmation email as well as six monthly emails with information and reminders. This includes flight information, passport, visa, physical training, gear and clothing purchases, etc. International journeys can require a lot of prep on the front-end so BE breaks everything down into monthly baby steps.
